First Aid Tips for Immediate Care
For dental emergencies or questions about first aid, please call Tebo Dental at 770-925-3300. The information below includes only a few examples of what you can do. If you are unsure or need additional assistance, feel free to contact our office right away.
Knocked-Out Permanent Tooth
- Locate the tooth and pick it up by the crown, not the root, to avoid damaging it.
- Try to reinsert the tooth gently into the socket. Have your child bite down on gauze or a clean cloth to hold it in place.
- If reinsertion isn’t possible, keep the tooth moist by placing it in a glass of milk (preferred), a saline solution, or your child’s saliva in a clean container.
- Contact us immediately for guidance and re-implantation. Quick action can make the difference in saving the tooth.
Swollen Lip or Soft Tissue Injuries
- Gently rinse your child’s mouth with warm water to clean the area.
- Apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek or mouth to minimize swelling.
- Use over-the-counter pain relief only if approved by your child’s pediatrician.
- If bleeding is heavy or swelling is severe, call us immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.
Knocked-Out Baby Tooth
- Locate the tooth and keep it moist by placing it in milk, saline, or a clean container with your child’s saliva.
- Do not reinsert a baby tooth into the socket, as it can damage the developing permanent tooth underneath.
- Call us to schedule an evaluation and ensure your child’s mouth is healthy.
Cracked or Fractured Tooth
- Gently rinse your child’s mouth with warm water to clean the area.
- Apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek or mouth to minimize swelling.
- Call us promptly to schedule an evaluation to assess the injury and perform any necessary treatment.
Other Injuries / Bleeding
- Rinse your child’s mouth with water, but avoid vigorous rinsing.
- Apply gauze with gentle pressure to the affected area.
- If a foreign object is stuck in the mouth, seek immediate medical care.
